Toughened glass undergoes a special heat treatment and helps with safety, strength and also temperature resistance. If it is broken, it will break into really small pieces, which reduces the likelihood of injury to anyone nearby.
Laminated glass includes an extra layer between two pieces of glass. It is much more difficult to break and if it does, the interlayer holds the glass fragments together.
